Sometimes we get stuck on teams with people who don't look out for the benefit of the entire team. They are only concerned with themselves and do what's best for their personal agenda. I have seen many teams fail to achieve optimum performance because of one person.
The real problem is the leader of the team has failed to select the right person. Or, worse yet, a person was assigned to us who wasn't doing well somewhere else so they put him with us to get fixed. No matter the reason, we are in charge and have to make it work. Deep down we know having the right people on our team is essential to accomplishing the mission. Knowing their skills and experience tells us they are technically capable. Understanding their personality, tells us they are a good fit for the group. Then we take our people and train them to fill our needs for the team.
